On Monday evening there was the entry draft for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Cape Breton Eagles owned the first overall pick.
The Eagles’ first pick was defender Tomas Lavoie. It was the first time since 2020 that the first overall pick was a defender.

Playing for Esther-Blondin College Phénix, Lavoie scored 7 goals and collected 14 assists for 21 points in 36 games. He is 16 years old, 6 feet 3 inches tall, and weighs 190 pounds. He is a great defender who will be able to stand out in both directions of the ice.
Here are some presentation sequences by Tomas Lavoie:

Most of the scouts were unanimous that Lavoie should be the first choice overall, which demonstrates his talent. He should be in uniform with the Eagles from the start of next season.
A first choice defender is not very common, but a second choice who turns out to be a goalkeeper is rare! Well, the Victoriaville Tigres have selected Gaulois de St-Hyacinthe goalkeeper Gabriel D’Aigle with the second overall pick.
The last time a goalkeeper was drafted second overall in the QMJHL Draft was Roberto Luongo in 1995. D’Aigle puts a lot of pressure, but seems to have the talent to help the Tigers block shots.
At 6 feet 3 inches, just 15 years old, he will become a giant in front of his team’s goal. We must not forget that he moves as fast as a 5-foot-8 goalkeeper, but in the body of a giant. Let’s try to find weak points in him!
The QMJHL draft is still being streamed live on QMJHL’s YouTube account.

I was told the @Edmonton Oilers they are actively buying F Jesse Puljujarvi and there is some interest from clubs in the market for his services. Curious to see if there is a match for a potential deal from here to next week’s Entry Draft. @espn @NHL #Hockey on Twitter
