First successful foray into the world of wireless headphones with active noise reduction for the Elite 85h. This model is a very serious alternative to the tenors that are the QC35 II and the WH-1000XM3, although it is still a little behind in terms of comfort, higher frequency performance and active noise reduction. Those who can invest a little more for the ultimate in comfort and listening experience will turn to the WH-1000XM3, unless multipoint pairing is absolutely essential.

Highlights

  • Impeccable sound reproduction over a large part of the audible spectrum (precision, definition, balance).
  • Good distortion / power control.
  • Very intuitive use, full controls.
  • Sound + app above.
  • Clean, foldable design.
  • Complete accessories.
  • Stable, multi-point Bluetooth connection.
  • Extremely generous autonomy (over 36 hours).
  • Weather resistance guaranteed for 2 years.
  • Excellent quality hands-free kit / HearThrough mode.

Weaknesses

  • Tall with a somewhat “chemical” look, lacking in detail.
  • Slightly tight bow deployment for large heads.
  • No passive wired use.
  • Inaccurate volume adjustment (not less than +/- 4 dB per button press).
  • Bluetooth latency.

How the price table works

Thanks to many appreciated ergonomic improvements, this new version of the Audio Technica ATH-M50xBT is proving to be a real pleasure to use on a daily basis. In the end, it doesn’t take long to get closer to the best nomadic helmets on the market: a slightly more detailed reproduction and, to a lesser extent, a more refined design and a little more insulation would undoubtedly have opened the doors to it’s the gate of the star for excellence. Don’t get me wrong though – this ATH-M50xBT2 is still a great choice for anyone looking to buy portable Bluetooth headphones without active noise reduction.
