After more than three years of waiting, Netflix’s flagship series resumed for its fourth season in June and unveiled its final two episodes on the platform on July 1st. Two cinematic episodes, almost an hour and a half for the first, and more than two hours for the second: enough to solve many questions and intrigues of the saga.
For this new season the Hawkins band is back, all in sabot and geometric t-shirts reminiscent of the 80s. There are also evil monsters and the story becomes more complex … Despite the end of the season, many questions remain. If you haven’t had time to watch the last two episodes yet, we recommend that you go your own way: disclosure ahead, as our friends from Quebec would say.
Will Vecna return in the fifth season?
While Vecna / Henry / One ended up burned alive and struck by the alliance of Robin, Steve and Nancy, and deeply wounded by Eleven in “Upside Down” (“the world upside down” in VF), it seems to have not completely disappeared, quite the contrary. Having put Max in a state of clinical death, Vecna has managed to have her four victims, allowing her to activate the four portals at the four corners of Hawkins … And to cause an earthquake, devastating most of the houses.
The final minutes of the season finale show the dike between the real world and the broken “upside down”, with rotting flowers and whitish particle infested air. Will feels Vecna’s presence and announces it clearly to his friends: he’s hurt, he’s suffering and wants revenge. After spending an entire season exploring Vecna’s character – and explaining why he’s always been THE bad guy – it’s likely that next season will see him return for one last fight …
Will Max come out of the coma?
After a fierce fight against Vecna and a grisly dive into her memories, Max nearly passed out. Kate Bush’s famous song couldn’t do anything about it. Eyes rolled back, legs and arms nearly broken … The scene of Max’s death in Lucas’s arms caused more than a tear from fans. However, Eleven, thanks to her powers, gave her a breath of life: now she is on the razor’s edge.
Trying to infiltrate his mind while visiting him at the hospital, Eleven finds Max’s mind empty … The latter’s fate therefore remains a major issue to be resolved in Season 5. Does the red-haired heroine come back to life? If so, in what state?
Eleven, Lucas, Dustin, Mike, Will will be able to have a “normal” life?
Although the group of friends have never had a very “normal” life since the beginning of the first season, their daily life alternated between saving the world, fighting monsters … and going to class or playing. Dungeons & Dragons. Eleven, during season 3 and early season 4, repeats how much you want a normal, quiet life.
However, in view of the final minutes of season 4, this aspiration to the serene routine is undermined. It’s hard to imagine a truce as portals are open all over Hawkins and an imminent threat looms over the town. However, showrunner Ross Duffer revealed that there may be a time jump between this season and the next: “Ideally, we would have shot seasons 4 and 5 one after the other, but it wasn’t feasible. So these are discussions we’re going to have with the our writers when we launch the writing sessions. “
Where have Yuri, Murray and Enzo gone?
After spending part of the season exploring a Soviet prison, Joyce and Murray eventually catch Hopper, taking in Yuri, a low-spirited Russian trafficker, and Enzo, a former Russian guard who became a prisoner in Hopper’s cell. An escape worthy of the greatest action films, based on helicopters and flamethrowers, which allowed the cheerful American-Russian gang to escape from Russia.
However, at the end of the episode, when Eleven and Hopper meet again, and Joyce joins her family, there is no trace of Yuri, nor of Enzo, much less of Murray. If the latter could have returned home (and again in season 5?), We do not know the fate of the two Russians, certainly wanted by the KGB. Will they go back to Hawkins? Will the USSR and its KGB be involved? Case to follow.
Which characters will end up together?
Beyond the plots involving a monster-infested parallel world, Stranger things, it is also love. At the end of season 4, several couples appear to have formed / closed or, conversely, to be in bad shape. Will the love story of Mike and Eleven continue, after the doubts of this at the beginning of the season? Will Lucas and Max get back together if he survives? Will Dustin be able to find Suzy, his lover from a distance? Nancy wonders about her relationship with Jonathan, which is faltering, while her ex Steve made her a love affair in the middle of “Upside Down”. She faces a difficult decision as the world crumbles and her days in college draw near.
This season 4 of Stranger things it is also that of the (more or less clear) coming out of certain characters: if Robin tries to overcome his shyness (and the latent lesbophobia of the time) to get closer to the girl of his dreams, for Will everything seems more complicated. The teenager does not reveal her romantic and sexual orientation during this season but her very strong feelings for Mike can be read in the episodes, and particularly in the ninth, where she stifles her sobs. A scene that moved many fans.
Will Hawkins be able to have a happy ending?
Is that going to be the whole problem of this season 5: Will Hawkins end up in flames and blood (which has already been the case for four seasons), or will she be able to be saved by Eleven and her blindfolded? One thing is certain, is that the Duffer brothers already know the end of the story and have stated in numerous interviews that they have written the main lines of season 5, which will be the last, during the periods of confinement.
A last season that promises to be full of twists, and which should arrive much earlier than expected: “The interval this time should be shorter, since we already have the main lines (from season 5). […] And we can’t imagine another forced hiatus of six months, “the brothers told Variety magazine. An arrival on our screens expected in late 2023, or even 2024.
