Hubert Lenoir was long overdue. After presenting his new compositions to American and European audiences, the musician finally embarks on a festival tour across Quebec.
In the coming weeks he will play at the Festival d’été de Québec, the Noce de Saguenay and the Poutine Festival in Drummondville. On Tuesday he will be on the main stage of the Francos, in Montreal.
Although it may be the largest audience of his career, Hubert Lenoir refuses to get carried away by this great concert. “It is important to see it as a show like any other,” he told him in an interview with Tree trunk. It is a question of consistency. Even if I’m in a small room, I always try to be 100% the same. “
Despite everything, he ends up admitting that he is “excited and perplexed” by this performance on June 14th. Aside from the surprise show at Les Foufounes Electriques on May 27th, this will be the first time he will play the titles of PHOTO BY IPSE in Montreal.
“And at the moment there are no other dates on the calendar. [pour Montréal], He said. So this may be the last time we play it. It’s now or never! “
On his new album, Hubert Lenoir explored direct music. The disc therefore wants to be a collage of songs, various samples and amateur recordings. How did he want to transport it to the stage?
“For me, direct music was a way to break down the fourth wall in the studio,” he says. It was a form of mise en abyme. In concert, it is not consistent to reproduce the same thing because we are in a real state. “
His lifelong accomplice, Noémie D. Leclerc, will bring yet another touch of “live” to the performance. “She will be on stage shooting,” Hubert said. It will be broadcast live on screens. “
The rave reviews of his album, last September, the musician received “as a form of victory with [lui]-same “.” It was a message for the next projects that I will do. I will always try to make music that disturbs me myself, “says the one who wants to start creating new songs at the beginning of 2023.
In addition to the Franco, Hubert Lenoir will also participate in the Montreal International Jazz Festival, on July 3, where he will perform in a jazz concert. “I took it literally! I thought it would be nice to do a show where I focus more on singing […] It is a little bit a works in progress shows I’ll do when I’m 70. It’s like planning hobby for my retirement [rires] ! “
Hubert Lenoir will perform for free outside Francos on Tuesday at 9pm on the Bell stage. He will also play at the FIJM, on July 3, at 10:30 pm, at the Gesù.
